 Quails in the Nest

A night to raise awareness of the cause – and funds for the winners. 100% of the proceeds will go into a fund that will be distributed among the winners – in other words, it’s going right into the hands of those who work tirelessly, often thanklessly, to bring you “the other side of the news.”

That was the catchphrase for The Other Side, hosted by Maggie Hughes. The death of blogger, journalist and radio host Maggie Hughes came as a shock, and her loss was felt across the city. It was her death that caused many to consider the importance of recognizing independent media. The HIMAs were inspired by Maggie’s tireless efforts – and the awards have been nicknamed “The Maggies” in her honour. Celebrating and honouring independent Hamilton journalists working in print, radio, video and online, the HIMAs will award and reward the efforts of those who work so hard to uncover what Maggie would have called “The other side of the news.”
