HAMILTON (Friday February 27,2015): September Seventh Entertainment Limited and This Ain’t Hollywood announced today that Hamilton Indie Rock trio, The Killjoys, will be performing a Pre-JUNO weekend warm-up party with special guest Tomi Swick. The show takes place at 9PM, on Thursday March 12th, at This Ain’t Hollywood.
The Killjoys formed in 1992, in Hamilton. Their first album was Starry, released in 1994, followed by Gimme Five in 1996, and Melos Modos in 1997. They received a JUNO for Best New Group in 1997 and a Rock Radio Award for Independent Artist of the Year.
The band became popular with the singles, Today I Hate Everyone, Dana and Rave + Drool. The Killjoys toured internationally and were a favourite at major outdoor festivals throughout the 90’s including Edgefest, at Molson Park, in Barrie.
Tomi Swick, who won a JUNO for New Artist of the Year in 2007, will open the show. Swick, a feisty and soulful troubadour from Hamilton, recorded with Julian Lennon for his latest release, December Sky.
Co-Promoter of the show, Jean-Paul Gauthier, stated, “I’ll never forget when the Killjoys took the main stage at Molson Park at Edgefest. The crowd went from being barely alive to completely frantic – a very exciting moment in Hamilton’s music history.” Co-Promoter, Lou Molinaro said, “Tomi and the Killjoys are going to give a Hamilton-style kick start to the JUNO weekend and it’s going to be one of our best shows of the year.”
2015 marks a 20-year journey for the Hamilton Music Awards, Festival and Conference, part of Hamilton’s JUNO legacy, which began as Hamilton Music Scene, an unofficial JUNO-Fest, when the JUNO’s hit the road and came to Hamilton, in March 1995.
Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10AM at www.thisainthollywood.ca/killjoys, Picks and Sticks (located at 140 Locke Street South in Hamilton), Dr. Disc (located at 20 Wilson Street) in Hamilton.
