Yonatan Gat/FLAMIN’ GROOVIES/NLX Hamilton Record Release Show with Special Guest AMY CAMPBELL/LEE AARON With SPECIAL GUEST PSYCHOTIC AUTHORITY & COUNTERWAIT/FREDDY POMPEII & THE SECRETS plus THE SHEANDERTHALS/PONYSHOW (8pm)
Monday Yonatan Gat
Yonatan Gat is a guitarist, composer and improviser based in New York Before becoming known as a band leader, Gat came to prominence as the guitarist and founder of Monotonix. He was profiled in Vice, People and the The New York Times. The Village Voice named him “Best Guitarist in New York, 2013”.
Gat formed Monotonix in his hometown of Tel-Aviv in November 2005. After finding themselves banned from most of the venues in the city due to the wild nature of their concerts, the band decided to leave Israel to tour the United States and Europe. With Monotonix, Gat released an EP and two albums on Drag City Records
In 2014, Gat began recording and performing under his own name. Gat’s new style channeled the confrontational energy of Monotonix, while bringing his guitar playing into a much more improvised realm and incorporating influences from various styles of music from around the world. His first two albums Iberian Passage and Director were released on Joyful Noise Records in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
Gat proceeded to tour the United States and Europe, focusing on a relentless touring schedule as opposed to reliance on music videos and online media. Gat’s band performed with artists such as Of Montreal, Thee Oh Sees, and Sun Ra Arkestra, making it a point to always play on the floor inside the audience In 2014, Gat’s band performed in SXSW, and was praised by BuzzFeed and SPIN as one of the top shows of the festival.Their newest release, an EP titled “Physical Copy” produced by Steve Albini was released in August 2015.

Wednesday NLX Hamilton Record Release Show… With Special Guest AMY CAMPBELL
Hometown CD Release with very special guest Amy Campbell.
Doors @ 8pm. Amy Campbell @ 8:30. NLX @ 9:30.
In a time of one hit wonders and copycat artists, NLX stands alone. Raised in the icy shadows of Canada’s steel city smoke stacks, NLX hails from the proud tradition of BS-free northern songwriting women. She continues to carry the electronically edged pop torch with “fists in the air, tears on the floor, don’t look back but close the door” kind of music. “NLX traffics in unschooled, confessional piano ballads.” – NY TIMES
But performing live is where the full spectrum of NLX’s vivid colors are at their sharpest. She may be new to you, but her keyboard/laptop toting wheels have spun hundreds of thousands of highway miles to countless gigs, big and small, always honing the craft, faithfully recreating her original works night after night, and always with the passion of a first time performance. “If great songwriting’s your bag, NLX most definitely deserves a listen.” – Michael Gallant, KEYBOARD
From 3,000+ soft-seaters while opening for Matthew Good and David Usher, to Lower East Side rock clubs to intimate cafes in Greenwich Village, NLX invites you into her heart – and makes her way into yours – with delightful blunt humor lifted from the same divine source as her music. You laugh, you cry. Experience NLX – don’t be afraid, you might just find love. If you are looking for grey, you should go get yourself a nice cashmere sweater instead!
Thursday LEE AARON With SPECIAL GUEST PSYCHOTIC AUTHORITY & COUNTERWAIT
To sum up Lee Aaron’s career in one paragraph is near impossible. This legendary rock diva started out singing jazz and Broadway standards in musical theatre in the Toronto suburbs, hanging out in music class after school, practicing and picking the brains of her instructors. By 15 she had formed a rock band, singing, playing keyboards and sax, and began playing all-ages shows.
While still in her teens, she wrote and recorded her debut, 1982’s The Lee Aaron Project. Featuring some of Canada’s most notable talent at the time (Triumph/Moxy) the LP was released on Polygram in Europe and garnered a feature in Britain’s Kerrang! magazine. That was followed with an appearance at 1983’s Reading Festival, where she blew away fans and critics alike with her powerhouse vocals and vibrant stage energy.
In 1984 she released Metal Queen. The album’s title track, a hard driving anthem about female empowerment, catapulted Aaron to iconic status in the rock world.
When famed producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper) heard Aaron sing (he was recording in the adjacent studio) he was impressed enough to step in to produce her next release. Call of The Wild garnered solid chart success in Canada and sold over 100,000 copies in Europe in just 6 weeks. The single “Barely Holdin’ On” resonated strongly with audiences and before long Aaron was topping European music polls and appearing on dozens of magazine covers including Sounds, Melody Maker and even TV Guide.
Relentless touring and chart-toppers like “Only Human”, “Whatcha Do To My Body”, “Hands On” and “Some Girls Do” resulted in multi-platinum sales in her home country and continued international success through the ’80s and ’90s.
Chart Magazine proclaimed Bodyrock (1989) one of the 20 most influential Canadian albums of the ’80s, with Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morrisette and Shania Twain all “under Aaron’s influence.” MuchMusic’s Listed has consistently rated her in the Top Female Rockers Of All Time category.
Friday SOUL JAZZ ORCHESTRA
Since first arriving on the Canadian scene at the turn of the millenium, the Souljazz Orchestra has never stopped pushing the limits of its signature sound: an explosive clash of Soul, Jazz, Afro, Latin and Caribbean styles, unleashed by blaring majestic horns, dusty vintage keyboards, and an arsenal of earthquaking percussion.
The multicultural collective surfaces with a hard-hitting new record for the fall of 2015, Resistance, resuming its link-up with UK-based Strut Records. “We approached this album with a fresh ear,” explains composer Pierre Chrétien. “We were keen to build on the band’s sound and message, so I brought in some of the French Caribbean and Francophone West African influences that I’ve loved since my youth.” Consequently, the new album adds fresh dancefloor-oriented elements of Coupé-Décalé, Zouk, and Ndombolo to the band’s heavy mix of Afro, Soul and Jazz styles.
In keeping with the group’s previous work, the band maintains powerful lyrics at the heart of its music, delivering some biting social commentary alongside messages of hope. Recorded using the group’s signature analogue techniques, the resulting album is a bold musical statement, a defiant celebration of social justice and human empowerment.
Now celebrating its 13th year, the Souljazz Orchestra continues its impressive run of memorable albums. Breaking through on Toronto label Do Right!, Freedom No Go Die (2006, featuring the single ‘Mista President’) and Manifesto (2008) set the bar high. Rising Sun (2010), Solidarity (2012), and Inner Fire (2014), the group’s first three albums with Strut Records, were subsequently recognized as landmarks within their respective genres, going on to be nominated for multiple Juno awards in Canada.
Meanwhile, years of relentless touring have formed the Souljazz Orchestra’s live concerts into the stuff of legends – more often than not culminating in ecstatic, sweat-soaked, cathartic affairs, mixing pulsating arrangements with eruptive improvisations. So far, the Ottawa-based sextet has been fortunate enough to bring its dynamite show to over two dozen countries across the globe, sharing bills along the way with heavyweights such as Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, and Femi Kuti, while showing no signs of slowing down. “When you’re this passionate about music, it’s not something you can turn on or off like a tap.” concludes saxophonist Ray Murray. “Souljazz is more than just a band for us, it’s a way of life.”
Saturday FREDDY POMPEII & THE SECRETS plus THE SHEANDERTHALS
Freddy Pompeii is a very important figure in the 1977 Canadian Punk Rock Scene. Bringing style and coolness to the scene, he became a much talked about cat and player! He served as the guitar player for The Viletones and then started his highly impressive band called THE SECRETS!
The Secrets were a straight ahead rock n roll band that combined Garage Rock of The 60’s along with Pop and real Rock N Roll.
Fast forward 30 plus years later, Freddy and the Secrets ( Chris Haight, John Hamilton & Bryant Didier) get together for a handful of shows. Lucky for us, Hamilton is a tour stop!
Warming up the evening are The Sheanderthals & The Diplomats!
See you on the 21st!!!
Sunday PONYSHOW (8pm)
Jonny has pale skin and slender, foolish legs. His preferred method of travel is by horseback across the dusky plains. Jason has never touched a drop of water in his life, yet he will sometimes claim otherwise. He can often be found stretched out on the floor, sleeping in a shaft of sunlight, like a cat. The two share a healthy fear of cloven-hooved animals. This fear manifests itself physically in sweaty palms and piteous, uncontrollable mewling. Leann has long, silky hair. When braided, it can suspend a bench upon which six men are sleeping. In the top left drawer of her bedroom bureau lies a small, oaken box. Inside this box is a smaller box, this one carved from hickory and inlaid with human bone. Inside this box is yet another box. No one has ever learned what lies in this last box, perhaps not even she. A more merry trio whirling and dancing upon their musical instruments you will never find.
