SATURDAY CATL with MATTY SIMPSON BAND & THE HANDSOME DEVILS (9pm)
once a duo, then a trio, now a duo… this “gruesome twosome” (Perlich Post) is a stripped down, juke-joint blues band that will make you drink n’ sweat til you can’t drink n’ sweat no more. make catl proud.
Matty Simpson Band
Matty has been playing the guitar for as long as anyone can remember. Since joining his first band when he was in grade 6 to travelling the world with the Fred Eaglesmith Travelling Show, Matty has become an incredibly versatile guitarist.
From an early age, Matty has had an appreciation for good music, growing up listening to artists such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Van Morrison, The Band and many others. This has had a profound impact on his current songwriting style, which can be said to sound like 60s rock/folk – the Band meets the Black Keys meets Willie P. Bennett.
The Handsome Devils
Rev. Jon Goold was struck down by blinding light one night after an evening of drunkenness and debauchery. He then heard a benevolent voice tell him that he was to start the greatest old-timey country western band that no one has ever heard of, and that he should recruit his foolish wife and brothers to join him in this fruitless endeavor. Thus the Handsome Devils were born.
