Hamilton Winterfest. Monday, February 20 2017 #hamont @HCArts @933CFMU
Hamilton, ON (January 31, 2017) — Curious about the world of dance? Itching to try a musical instrument? Interested in painting or making patterns in clay? The Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts is inviting the community to enjoy free arts workshops on Monday, February 20 as part of 2017 Hamilton Winterfest.
From 10am-4pm, youth, kids, adults and of course families can try interactive workshops in visual art, dance, and music. Individuals of all ages interested in dance may choose to drop in and learn moves from the latest Broadway musicals or take introductory classes in ballet, modern, and lyrical. Aspiring musicians can sample private lessons on a variety of musical instruments, join an all-ages drum circle, or learn to sing at vocal improv. Participants are encouraged to channel their creativity and imagination throughout the day.
“We are very excited to offer free arts programming on Family Day,” said HCA Artistic Director Vitek Wincza. “It’s a fun opportunity for families to explore different art forms together, and a great way to build a strong community in Hamilton.”
All of the classes are taught by working professionals and HCA faculty members. Instructors include HCA’s Head of Ballet Denise van Es, Alyssa Nedich, winner of the Hamilton Spectator Readers’ Choice Award for Best Dance Instructor (2014 and 2015) and choreographer of Communal Solace, premiering at the upcoming Frost Bites Festival; internationally recognized Yamaha music educator Teresa Sanecki and new faculty member and percussion teacher Kevin Fournier; as well as local artists Ayda Ghaffari and Lucy Gerritson Beardwood, who are leading painting and clay workshops, respectively.
A full schedule of arts activities can be found at hcarts.ca. All classes take place in Hamilton Conservatory for the Art’s historic facilities at 126 James Street South. Most workshops are drop-in. However, individuals who are interested in trying private piano class must book in advance by calling 905-528-4020.
