Scantily Glad Theatre is proud to bring its latest show, SCUM:
A MANIFESTO, a provocative new satire, to the Hamilton
Fringe Festival from July 20-July 30 at Hamilton Theatre Inc.
In 1967, Valerie Solanas wrote the radically feminist “S.C.U.M.
Manifesto: Society for Cutting Up Men,” which suggested that
in order for women to be truly liberated, they must overthrow
the government and kill all men. SCUM: A MANIFESTO is a
look inside the mind of the woman who shot Andy Warhol
and an examination of the feminist movement today. Watch us
cross the line of traditional theatre, over and over…
Since its premiere at the PotashCorp Saskatoon Fringe Theatre
Festival in 2016, the play has undergone a developmental
workshop by Canadian playwright, Vern Thiesen (Einstein’s
Gift, Vimy) and was featured in the Saskatchewan Playwrights
Centre’s Spring Festival of New Plays. The show recently
toured to the St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival to a warm
and welcoming audience and critical success.

We are Scantily Glad Theatre: an emerging independent
theatre company from Saskatoon. Founded in 2014, our
mandate is to create original, thought-provoking theatre that
promotes the work of female artists. This summer, we are
taking our newest show, SCUM: A MANIFESTO, on a tour of
the Canadian Fringe circuit. Created by an all-female ensemble,
we are proud to be bringing this show to the Hamilton
Fringe Festival as the second stop on our tour.
Director, Danielle Spilchen, has toured the Canadian Fringe
Circuit with award-winning Fringe comedies:
Aiden Flynn Lost His Brother So He Makes Another,
Dr. Frightful Presents: Dead Air and Southern Dandy 75!
Creator/performers, S.E. Grummett & Caitlin Zacharias have
been working together for over 5 years, creating raunchy, bold
new work.

“Shining a light on the still-fraught relationships
between the sexes is always a relevant pastime, and
this tightly produced dark comedy will make individuals
of every gender laugh as much as it makes them
squirm.” (Cult Montreal)
“Often provocative, often shocking, this provocative
play is an experience one will not soon forget.”
(Saskatoon Fringe Audience Review)
“The ladies are captivating and enigmatic, pulling
the audience in from the start and commanding
the room, often by engaging directly with audience
members…it is impossible to drift off or let your mind
wander while Grummett and Zacharias are doing
their thing. SCUM is an important show, and a must
see at this years’ festival.” (Montreal Theatre Hub)
“Full of sound and fury, signifying something… an
extreme reaction against a patriarchal society.”
