This Ain’t Hollywood July 21st – SVEN GALI 25th Anniversary Ontario Tour @thesainttweets

Image may contain: one or more people and people on stage

Formed in 1987 in Hamilton and Niagara Falls, Ontario, SVEN GALI brought the 80’s and 90’s hard rock/metal wave home to Canada. They delivered their high-energy live show from St. Johns to Victoria, and across the USA and Europe for the next 9 years.

Twenty-five years after their self-titled debut album went Gold (50,000 units) in Canada, they are back with a monster new song called “Kill The Lies” recorded with legendary producer David Bendeth (Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Bring Me The Horizon). Released on June 10th, 2018 the new track is no throwback to the 90’s, but a heavy, modern rock song that doesn’t look back. A part of the proceeds from the sale of the single will go to support cancer research in the name of founding guitar player Dee Cernile. Dee passed away from cancer in 2012.

**********************
INCREDIBLE WOMAN
**********************

“Derm Kean and An Incredible Woman are a four piece rock band hailing from Canadian cultural hub, St. John’s, Newfoundland. Start to finish, their debut record ‘Incredible’ is unstoppable. The band wastes no time drenching its audience in squealing guitars, ripping bass, bombastic drums and a tasteful dash of synthesizer. Derm’s vocal prowess may take one of many forms, from fluent hometown punk, to dynamic and harmonically tiered ballads.

Incredible Woman waste no time. The band is currently working on their sophomore record at Electrical Audio with renowned sound engineer Steve Albini. A release date and title has yet to be determined, so stay tuned.”

**************
DEAD FIBRES
**************

“A megalomaniac gorges himself on a number of toxic substances and stumbles into another consecutive night of dehydrated, tooth-grinding madness. The soundtrack to his evening: Dead Fibres’ forthcoming release “Disgusting People with Disgusting Motives”. The album is a brash, self-destructive and introspective piece that is at all times loud and chaotic. With this release the band sought to create an album that was consistent not only sonically, but also thematically. “Disgusting People with Disgusting Motives” deals with the baser elements of humanity that are driven by vice and lust, those of which that can be found by making a trip over to the wrong end of town. It is a filthy and grimey exposé of these elements as well as a passé cry for help. “Disgusting People with Disgusting Motives” is not to be missed if you’re looking to revel in the nastier side of life. Just be weary of the hangover that is sure to follow.

Dead Fibres were begotten within the booze-flooded months (and years) of directionless anxiety following the conclusion of high school and out of this monotonous milieu they have managed to birth a distinctive blend of grunge, punk and psychedelia that is both aggressive and rhythmically driven. In late 2014 Dead Fibres dropped their self-titled debut, which was backed up with a Canada-wide tour in 2015. This summer will witness the second Dead Fibres’ Canadian Tour wherein the band will attack an expanded number of cities, bringing with them an updated sound and vision.”

HUMAN NUN
**************

Out of the ashes of Poorage… up rises HUMAN NUN.
Lovable Hamilton musical maniacs and members of Poorage, Sensei, Get Off The Cop, Man Made Hill.
Stay tuned.

*******************
THE BEACH BATS
*******************

“The Beach Bats are two parts rock n’ roll, a weak shot of jazz fusion, fill the rest with punk rock and cheap margarita mix. Rim with rockabilly residue and garnish with fresh lime. Pairs best with forever vacations, bonfires on the shore, and nights out at the pool hall. Moon Mutt and Goth Bikini pilot this pleasure craft along with whatever delinquents seem to be hanging around on the beach that particular afternoon. Influences range from Reverend Horton Heat to Black Sabbath, Les Baxter to FEAR. Music that will put you in poor health and add years to your complexion like that sizzlin’ Florida sun.”

Dan Baird is a singer-songwriter, musician and producer best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist from the chart-topping rock band The Georgia Satellites. Baird formed The Georgia Satellites and the self-titled debut Georgia Satellites was their most successful release featuring the track “Keep Your Hands to Yourself” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went into heavy rotation on MTV.
Baird left the band to pursue a solo career and released Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired. The first single “I Love You Period”, charted and peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. A follow up single “The One I Am” charted and peaked at #13 on Billboard’s “Album Rock Tracks” chart.

In 2005, Baird began touring and recording with his band, Homemade Sin which today features two ex-members of The Georgia Satellites, Baird and drummer Mauro Magellan, along with bassist and guitarist Warner E. Hodges (of Jason & the Scorchers). Known for their blazing high-energy live shows, Homemade Sin performs a mixture of Baird’s solo material in addition to the hits and fan favorites from his years with the Georgia Satellites. The band has built a solid name and touring history across the UK and Europe. The band released a new album in 2017 so gearing up for a great year of international touring including North America for select tour dates in 2018.

Corridor
Montreal’s CORRIDOR take familiar elements but assemble and scramble them in a way you may not have heard before. There’s a twin-guitar interplay that recalls the late-’70s mutant new wave of XTC, The dB’s and The Feelies, with a sense of melody that shows a love of ‘60s psychedelia and sunshine pop. Putting a hometown twist on things, CORRIDOR sing entirely en français. Don’t let that put you off though: the creativity and abundance of killer tunes found on their acid-baked 2017 album Supermercado breaks through the language barrier. CORRIDOR are even better live, with a real joie de rock that knows no borders — guitars slash, harmonies soar, bodies a constant blur.

With his first record finally in that brand new bag and new songs already on the way, Saint Pé plans to spend the foreseeable future back on the road with this latest project, bringing his new sounds to plenty of familiar faces.” – http://saintpeband.com/

Kalyna Rakel (Toronto) https://www.kalynarakel.com/
In 2007 ‘Kaleena’ was a 16 year old rising RnB singer with a video featured on Much Music and an album of original songs. At 18 she became severely ill and for three years was left with barely enough energy to go about her days. Bed ridden and disillusioned she let her dreams of music go. After healing she embarked on a life-changing trip to Europe; in her first week everything she had was stolen and she found herself sleeping on the streets. There she met a group of street musicians who inspired her to try music again. On her return she taught herself to play guitar and began busking, writing songs and developing her sound as Kalyna Rakel. Since then she has released 4 albums of original music, performed across Europe, Canada and the United States and been featured in festivals and on radio stations all across the world.

Advance tickets: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/wax-mannequin-lpcd-release-w-sarah-good-the-bads-heavy-waves-tickets-45864546092?aff=es2

Hello,
I hope that you will attend this, my record launch celebration.
I promise that it will be filled with all manner of planned surprises and goodtime happenstance. The album took an earnest while to create and involved many of my best and most talented friends. I’m trying to get everyone together to reproduce it live. Then I will travel again.

I am very excited that Sarah Good & The Bads will perform
https://sarahgood.bandcamp.com/
as well as Heavy Waves (members of Astral Witch)
https://astralwitch.bandcamp.com/

Both write ferocious songs that make me weak in the knees. They might make you swoon and yell.

My new album is called Have A New Name. It will be released (vinyl and CD) nationally on COAX records/Outside distribution. COAX is a wonderful not-for-profit label run by Rae Spoon, and home to quality friends of mine like Bird City (Jenny Mitchell), Concealer and Geoff Berner. I encourage you to explore the entire COAX catalogue at…
http://www.coaxrecords.com/

Recently, someone typed flattering words about me and my new record. At the risk of seeming immodest, I have posted these words below in order to give you a sense of what to expect from the album. Here they are:

Wax Mannequin
Have A New Name

Wax Mannequin (aka Hamilton, Ontario’s Christopher Adeney) is many things to many people. A lyricist, songsmith and self-effacing showman certainly, but also a student of the human psyche, constantly finding fresh and interesting ways to frame the people we are and the things we encounter.

All of that is gloriously displayed on the seventh Wax Mannequin album, Have A New Name, the result of Adeney reuniting with producer Edwin Burnett, with whom he made some of the first Wax Mannequin recordings in the early 2000s. Working in a small east-end Hamilton industrial space containing an array of vintage and modern gear, the pair—along with percussionist Mark Raymond—crafted Have A New Name’s eight songs out of semi-impromptu sessions that eventually expanded with the addition of grand
piano, gamba da viola, double bass and a 12 piece choir. The end product is the most sonically ambitious Wax Mannequin album to date, and also arguably the most powerful.

As an example, Adeney points to the album’s closing track “Longest Hour,” an atmospheric travelogue that never lags over the course of its nearly nine minutes. Other songs on Have A New Name such as “Basketball” and “Squirmy Wormy” are rooted in whimsy, while the songs “Someone Fixed The Game” and “People Can Change” display a maturity that signals Wax Mannequin is indeed more than capable of reaching wider audiences without sacrificing any of his edge.

With Have A New Name, Christopher Adeney has made a Wax Mannequin album utterly necessary for this moment in time. Challenging and earthy, funny and heartbreaking, in search of answers yet rooted in hard-earned wisdom.

FRIDAY June 15 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT BURNS feat GNARLY HORSE ,MATTY SIMPSON and BEN SOMER – 9pm

Image may contain: text

On Friday, June 15th at This Ain’t Hollywood! Gnarly Horse! Matty Simpson! Ben Somer! And best of all, he’s a man around town, a prolific drummer who plays with more than a handful of bands in town and teaches future generations of rhythm makers.. you all know him, you all love him – it’s Matt Burns’ 30th birthday bash! Come out and party with us!

GNARLY HORSE
Since their formation, Toronto/Hamilton based four piece, Gnarly Horse, have made it their mission to deliver fuzzed out pop gems inspired by 90s rock giants like Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins and Sloan. The songs are loud, catchy and waste no time getting to the chorus. Lead vocals are shared between guitarists Carter Jarvis and Luke Boehler, who are known for injecting their songs with harmonized guitar licks and catchy vocal melodies that you’ll be humming for days. Their first EP, “Kissing”, was released in 2017, with a follow up set to release in fall 2018.
https://gnarlyhorse.bandcamp.com/releases

MATTY SIMPSON
Matty Simpson is a world class guitar player and singer-songwriter based out of Hamilton, Ontario. His style has been called an eclectic mix of rock and roll and the blues. To hear Matty’s songs is to appreciate what a dedicated singer songwriter he has become. His songs are a testament to the years of devotion to the craft yet their message remains relative to all of his listeners. His singing and vocal styles have been compared to musical greats such as Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder. His soulful melodies and thoughtful chord progressions will have you wanting to listen to his songs on repeat.
www.mattysimpsonmusic.com

BEN SOMER
Ben Somer is a gifted songwriter with a knack for storytelling. His works are painstakingly candid snap-shots of the day-to-day which bring to mind the great songwriters of a bygone era. Armed with a razor-sharp wit and a gift for brevity, Somer crafts beautifully compelling songs that are as heartbreaking as they are tongue-in-cheek. His music has travelled across the country via radio, television, internet, and relentless touring. Part of a new generation of artists carrying on the Great Canadian Songwriting Tradition, Ben has performed hundreds of concerts ranging from intimate living room shows – playing to a handful of attentive listeners – to larger music festivals where he’s shared the stage with world-class artists. The future looks promising for the young musician, who has already garnered critical acclaim, and with a third studio album forthcoming it seems that Somer is well on his way to joining the ranks of Canada’s songwriting elite.
